Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we introduce the intention and practice of hand mudras.

Objective

Be familiar with the energies represented in the hand and guidelines for practicing hand mudras.

Description

Describe three traditional ways that hand mudras have been used in India and the purpose or intention of each. Note the element that is represented by the thumb and by each finger. Explain the effect of a finger (representing an element) being brought into contact with the thumb. Name up to six ways in which mudras are used. Provide common guidelines regarding practicing mudras during particular times and activities. Discuss which hand is recommended to practice with and how much pressure is recommended during practice.
