Grief — for Yoga Teachers, Yoga Therapists, Health & Wellness Coaches, Holistic Healthcare Providers

Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we explore the nature of grief and how to support someone who is grieving.

Objective

Have a foundational understanding of the nature of grief and how practices such as breathwork, meditation, and yoga postures can support someone who is grieving.

Description

Define grief and describe its natural, multifaceted nature as a human process. Outline thoughtful and appropriate ways to support others who are grieving, emphasizing the importance of sensitivity and care. While it is natural to want to avoid intense emotional pain, explain how acknowledging loss and allowing the grieving process to unfold can support healing. Include examples of the physical effects of grief, and describe general ways in which yoga can offer support. Highlight specific practices — such as breathwork, meditation, and gentle postures — that may help regulate the nervous system and create space for emotional processing. Offer a simple approach to practicing presence and allowing when difficult feelings and emotions arise.
