In this lesson, we discuss the keys to emotional well-being, plus techniques and practices that improve our relationship with emotions.

Objective

Be prepared to teach strategies and methods that cultivate emotional well-being and resilience.

Description

Define and describe emotional well-being, emotional balance, emotional mastery, and emotional intelligence, emphasizing that none are about eliminating emotions or always feeling good. Describe how to feel feelings — as opposed to suppressing or distracting ourselves — and the essential practice for doing so. Discuss the relevance of emotions as energy in motion and how we can wisely respond. Explain the particularly helpful interpretation of the philosophical teaching of non-attachment as it relates to emotions. Discuss how yoga promotes healthy responses to emotional energy. List and describe several perspectives and techniques for using mindfulness-based practices to promote emotional well-being.
