In this lesson, we define the qualities of emotions and feelings from multiple perspectives.

Objective

Be familiar with diverse perspectives on the core qualities of emotions, and common ways in which people may have a limited or underdeveloped understanding of them.

Description

Describe the underlying phenomenon people are pointing to when they answer the question, “What are you feeling?” Define and discuss the terms feeling and emotion both in common use and in more precise terms. Provide foundational insights about emotions from Candace Pert’s research into the biochemistry of emotions and the connection of mind and body. Discuss the etymology of the word emotion and discuss the core qualities of emotions from multiple perspectives. Discuss verifiable causes of emotions. Describe ways in which people may have a limited or underdeveloped understanding of emotions.
