Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we introduce the anatomy (structure) and physiology (functions and relationships) of the immune system, lymphatic system and microbiome (gut health).

Objective

Understand the foundational anatomy and physiology of the immune system (including the lymphatic system and microbiome) plus the significance of psychoneuroimmunology.

Description

Describe the immune system and its functions. Discuss the many components of the immune and lymphatic systems and how they interact with many systems in the body. Describe two primary types of immunity and their significance. Explain what the lymphatic system does and how it works. Discuss the science of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) in terms of documenting the mind-body connection. Discuss the microbiome (gut health) and its significance.
