In this lesson, we introduce the philosophy and practicalities of dharma.
Be prepared to teach the philosophy and practicalities of dharma, a mission of the spirit.
Name the four core desires of human existence according to yoga philosophy. Define “dharma” and “sva dharma.” Name the yogic source of the teaching that it is better to do your own dharma poorly than to do someone else’s well. Describe the likely result when one doesn’t realize their dharma. Explain how dharma tends to relate to health and happiness. Describe on-the-mat practices for connecting to dharma. Explain how being in a state of imbalance can hamper a student’s efforts to identify their dharma. Provide examples of how you might provide inspiration during class to support a focus on dharma. Describe “dilemmas of dharma” and Sally Kempton’s recommended steps for resolving them.
