Review prerequisite knowledge for this lesson. Define adaptation in yoga. Provide examples of adaptation in teaching. Differentiate yoga and yoga therapy. Provide a general approach to adaptation. Discuss the philosophy of offering invitations and setting conditions. Read the teaching by Eckhart Tolle on surrendering not to an illness or an identity, but simply to this moment. Reflect on the yogic principle that every person is a perfect and whole expression of the one infinite source and how recognition of one’s inherent worthiness and wholeness impacts everything else. Discuss empowerment and the “can-do” bias. Injury or limitation is an “invitation to deepen your yoga practice.” Discuss how this is so, and the vast toolbox that supports such deepening. Provide six areas of focus for practice. Expand on considerations regarding movement, coaching observations, and body reading. Take note of the importance of becoming aware of daily life patterns such as posture and stress management that can hold the key to continued and lasting balance and health.
