Wrist Pain & Wrist Issues – Prevention & Adaptation — for Yoga Teachers, Yoga Therapists, Health & Wellness Coaches, Holistic Healthcare Providers

Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we introduce the mechanics of wrist pain and explore practical, supportive considerations for students managing wrist issues.

Objective

Explore considerations for safely supporting students who are experiencing or recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome, soreness, or general wrist pain.

Description

Identify potential causes of wrist pain, how daily posture and habits contribute to issues, and how upper body alignment, shoulder strength, and upper back mobility directly impact the wrists. Learn the standard protocols for weight-bearing poses when a student has active pain, and pinpoint the specific asanas that place the most significant pressure on the joints. Utilize a simple readiness test for practices requiring 90-degree wrist extension, and map out a gradual, safe approach for students returning to a full practice after pain has subsided. Master key alignment points for weight-bearing asana, and discover where to access targeted stretches, strategic modifications, wrist-friendly sequencing, and further study resources.

Vocabulary
