Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we introduce and explore foundational core anatomy.

Objective

Gain an understanding of the foundational anatomy of the core, including the function of the individual muscles and the core as a whole.

Description

Discuss the inconsistent use of  the term “core” and multiple perspectives from which to consider it. Succinctly define core anatomy and then discuss it more fully. Identify and discuss the functions of core musculature. Discuss intra-abdominal pressure and implications for teaching. Describe a way for students to experience the feeling of the abdominal muscles as stabilizers.
