Drishti (Gaze) – Introduction

In this lesson, we introduce drishti and its role in a variety of yoga practices.

Objective

Gain a fundamental understanding of drishti, the gazing direction associated with asana, kriyas, meditation and other yoga practices.

Description

Translate the Sanskrit word, drishti. Explain the purpose of practicing drishti in yoga and give a cautionary consideration for teaching it. Provide practice guidelines, including a generally effective drishti while practicing asana. Discuss external vs. internal gaze points and when each might be used. Provide common gaze points in Kundalini Yoga. Name nine drishti points.
