Guidelines for Creating or Choosing a Music Playlist

Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we offer considerations for creating or choosing a playlist to accompany yoga teaching.

Objective

Be familiar with considerations and techniques for choosing silence and selecting music to accompany teaching.

Description

Discuss parts of class that you might choose to have the music off. Note a signal that the volume is too loud. When you need to end a song before it has finished, describe a non-disruptive way to do so. Explore some potential negatives to avoid when using music. Provide three questions that can help to guide you in creating a playlist. Describe the framework for sequencing songs. Note a reason for avoiding music that has lyrics in the student’s primary language, and note considerations around use and placement of popular songs. Explain an action to take before using a song with lyrics in your playlist.
