Curation Overview

In this collection, we curate and synthesize research and reporting on the health impacts of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), including packaged foods, junk food, fast food, energy drinks, diet drinks, and other highly industrialized food products.

Objective

Be prepared to cite research on UPFs, junk food, fast food, energy drinks, diet drinks, and fake/lab-grown foods demonstrating that they provoke overeating and addiction and cause devastating harm including anxiety, depression, diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, cancer, suicidal thoughts in children, and death.

Description

Show research linking UPFs to anxiety, depression, heart disease, diabetes, other chronic diseases, and death. Discuss research on UPFs that show harm to microbiome health and increased risk of cancer. Show mainstream and independent media reporting that explains that food corporations know that chemically engineered products provoke overeating and addiction and harm health, and they capitalize on it to drive sales. Discuss the link between energy drinks and suicidal thoughts in children. Cite research showing that industrially processed foods lack nutrients that people need.
